I have been impressed with Howard Shore.
First with is avant guarde, industrial sounds in The Cell to his epic piece - The Lord of The Rings

I gotta check out The Cell. But Dead Ringers creeped me out. Sparse and wicked. Dude's got it happening.

He's definitely on right now. He even did a great score for the Ralph Fiennes movie "Spider" this last year.

If you want to hear something really distinctive, check out his music from David Cronenberg's "Crash." He also composed one of his most operatic scores for Cronenberg, "The Fly."

He also provided an excellent choral score for Al Pacino's "Looking for Richard," which was sort of a dry-run for "The Lord of the Rings."

The music from "The Score" was the best aspect of the film.

I am really beginning to like Howard Shore! He is always doing something interesting. I was pleased when I found out that he was to do the score for The Lord of the Rings...nice to see someone slightly lesser-known getting that big, juicy deal. And he did a fantastic job of it, I thought. He did some of the music for the film "Last Night" as well, a nice piano piece in there called "Piano Four".
  • I dig almost allof shores work, but I always seem to get bored with LotR stuff. While I'm glad it wasnt horner, doing it, or even Williams, it jsut feels like...."meh" to me.... which is obviously the opposite of what its supposed to be (and what most people find in it, since I'm the anomoly here)

I dont think I ahve a favorite composer, since all these guys can usually knock out something that isn't particularly their "style" and either makes me like them more....or sometimes less.

favorite soundtracks now.... hmm that depends on my mood, and how much I've had to drink I guess.
