Trying to get the film scoring in shape

I've been using Logic on my PC for about ten years. Written a bunch of rock tunes, lots of midi/techno stuff, even taken a shot at some virtual orchestra stuff. What I'd like to do is get a little practice scoring some film or video clips within Logic, create a file of my score over that clip. Any tips on how to go about this? Tutorials, websites, etc.? Just started reading over the synchronization chapter in Logic, which is just the basic nuts & bolts. I'd like to know how some of you guys are scoring for student & indie films and stuff.

I haven't used logic, but I've sync'ed to picture using both Digital Performer (my main software) and Sonar. Usually, you can import a video clip into a project, and it will sync by default the begining of the clip/begining of the sequence. You can change this usually.

One method that helps document when music starts/stops and where hits happen is by having the person supplying the film add a visual display of the timecode to the picture (a running clock placed usually in one corner of the screen). This way, when you give your music to the director, you can tell him/her that this clip begins at 1:20:15:20 and you wont have confusion about where the clip supposed to be.

A GREAT book is On The Track by Karlin....if you want to learn more about scoring for movies/tv.

    HTH,

    Richard
